Explore Fiber is a collaborative website showcasing and exploring fiber as a fine art material.
I’ve been knitting since I was 8 years old, and as a woman in my 60s, that means I’ve been knitting a VERY long time! I can still remember going out at recess and standing up against the school building knitting instead of running around playing. Boys teased me about “knitting diapers”, which I suppose was meant to slow my roll, but it made me more determined than ever! Knitting helps center my emotions and calm me during the choppy waters of life, and we all know there have been a LOT Of chop lately!
In fact, I just finished knitting a scarf/shawl from Purl Soho, a Cashmere Ombré Wrap Kit, and it is my new favorite thing! Thank you Purl Soho for continuing to come up with wonderful projects using amazing yarns! Now to the article I am referencing…Porch forwarded their article on how to set up your own knitting room and practice, and I highly recommend fiber folks who aren’t already knitting to try it out! Your Knitting Room: A Guide for Beginners has solid advice for diving into this very satisfying fiber technique. So, grab some lovely yarn, check out this article, and start knitting!
