Explore Fiber is a collaborative website showcasing and exploring fiber as a fine art material.
Just discovered Rachel Denny’s work from a book by Danielle Krysa (The Jealous Curator) – Creative Block: Get Unstuck, Discover New Ideas, Advice and Projects from 50 Successful Artists. Great book that features several fiber artists along with artists of many other disciplines. Each artist’s section has a few interview questions, but I love this question put to her and her response:
JC – What do you love about sculpture?
RD – I find sculpting challenging and satisfying. I have tried just about every medium, and like that I can use methods from all of these experiences with sculpture. I love working with tactile materials like wool, wood, clay and whatever else catches my fancy.
I’m very intrigued by her work – it is simple, yet complex. It is direct, but has a mysterious story behind it. It is hard, and soft. It is organic, but manmade. Perhaps you are intrigued by her work as well…we would love to hear your opinion!
