Artist Statement: As an art educator who teaches sculpture, my interest in transforming limp fibers into sculptural forms intrigues me. This piece is inspired by the idea that a space can sometimes only be partially open and available. The sculpture is woven utilizing basketry techniques out of approximately 15 yards of 1″ wide handwoven metal fabric. The black wire warp dances with a subtle glisten of the black metallic like weft. The opening of the box is banded with a line of metallic copper beads.
Techniques and media used: hand woven strips with a metal wire warp on an 8 harness floor loom, basketry techniques, and bead embellishment.
This sculpture is 5″ w x 5″ d x 4″ high
