Explore Fiber is a collaborative website showcasing and exploring fiber as a fine art material.
Olek, the Polish-born artist, has started a movement across the United states, Love Across the USA. This huge project will travel from state to state, working with local communities to crochet billboard-sized murals of inspirational figures like Harriet Tubman, Susan B. Anthony, and Hillary Clinton. The plan is to create 50 portraits of women that have been important to our national history.
It started with Olek’s first piece, “I’m With Her” billboard that was placed by a New Jersey highway.
Love Across the USA is a community public art project with the goal of bringing women, men, and children together through community workshops and public art installations. It is only as a united group that we can promote positive women’s voices and create real change. Just as many loops connect to create a strong crocheted fabric, we are stronger together.
Projects are getting started around the country. You can connect to this movement from the Facebook page, learn how to crochet from their YouTube channel, or organize a project for your community from the website. Great project, Olek! Thanks for bringing people together across the USA!
