These jeans can cost $2000.00 a pair! Made in Japan, of cotton hand picked from Zimbabwe, the quality of these garments is unparalleled! You can enjoy the videos I’ve uploaded to share the story with you:
This short video demonstrates the hand loom some of the denim is produced on:
A typical pair of hand-stitched jeans from Momotaro costs $300, but the price can go as high as $2,000 for a pair in which the fabric is made on a hand-operated shuttle loom that produces less than a yard a day. Momotaro sells its products at a handful of its own shops in Japan as well as small boutiques in U.S. cities such as New York, Chicago, Seattle and Los Angeles.
Enjoy!
There’s a fellow on a couple of facebook groups – about indigo and weaving – who is planning to do the same thing in the US. He’s spent months learning to weave and to dye with indigo. I think he’s sampled a couple of belt loops so far. I don’t think he’s learned to use a sewing machine yet. Quite a high bar he’s set for himself.
