Explore Fiber is a collaborative website showcasing and exploring fiber as a fine art material.
Club Knitflix began as a weekly virtual knitting club during the covid-19 pandemic as a means of staying connected. While practicing community and crafting, we also paid attention to the violence being inflicted on Black communities by the police, and talked about what we could do to support the Black Lives Matter movement and combat systemic racism.
Our idea was to host a virtual Knitathon to raise money for the Black Lives Matter movement. We invite knitters and crafters alike to join us for this 12-hour long event on Saturday August 22nd from 10am-10pm EST, which will be raising funds for The Loveland Foundation, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, G.L.I.T.S., and Disabled But Not Really.
This Knitathon is an event organized by allies and is meant to be a space for community, education, and action.
The Knitathon itself will take place over Zoom on Saturday August 22nd from 10am-10pm EST. Participants are free to enter during the first 10 minutes of every hour throughout the day and can join for however long they are available. It is important to note that the longer you participate, the more money you raise, so stay for as long as you can!
Throughout the Knitathon, the organizers will be offering knitting lessons, breakout groups, and short talks on relevant topics within the Knitting and Crafting communities. A more detailed schedule will be released in the weeks leading up to the event.
Don’t knit? That’s alright! Any long form crafting practice is encouraged! For more info visit their website.
