Explore Fiber is a collaborative website showcasing and exploring fiber as a fine art material.
Explore Fiber encourages the informal conversations between fiber artists, teachers and students like the one that popped up from the last blog post about Penny Berens. Janette Meetze made a comment to Penny on the post, sharing that she also had a fiber diary project, the Tapestry Diary Project Series. We’re so happy Penny and Janette had this virtual conversation, and encourage other fiber devotees to contribute their work and voices to the Explore Fiber mission. Love finding out about Janette’s own annual fiber project! You girls inspire me!!!
I’ve done some tapestry weaving, and though I really enjoyed it, I knew it wasn’t my weaving path. So I have tremendous appreciation for the patience that tapestry weavers have. I encourage you to visit her blog, but here’s what she says about the detail image to the left, Red Dirt Days, Journey Through 2014. I found out in January that it has been juried into the American Tapestry Biennial 11 (ATB 11) sponsored by the American Tapestry Alliance. There is more information about this exhibit on the ATA website here, http://americantapestryalliance.org/exhibitions/atbiennials/american-tapestry-biennial-11
Beautiful work, Janette, and congratulations! So happy to find out about you through Penny, and through your social media connections! More importantly, I love seeing how artists are using fibers to visually interpret their lives and the world around them.
