Explore Fiber is a collaborative website showcasing and exploring fiber as a fine art material.
A great post recently circulated on Facebook of these Giant Crocheted Sea Urchins from an article by My Modern Net.
For this year’s i Light Marina Bay Festival, a sustainability-focused, Singapore-based spectacle, Choi+Shine Architects created The Urchins, a series of 3 interactive installations. The crochet sea urchin sculptures have been meticulously crafted by hand, offering attendees a one-of-a-kind immersive experience. (The Urchins are 1.11 minutes into this video)
There are several installations that utilize fibers or textiles as materials for the sculptures. I love that fibers are an important 21st century fine art material! With technological developments, fibers are stronger and have many new properties thanks to nanotechnology. Check out this video to see an overview of the 20 installations for this exciting light show!
