Explore Fiber is a collaborative website showcasing and exploring fiber as a fine art material.
Explore Fiber is launching a series of Labs that will be instructional sessions focusing on processes, techniques and materials. We hope these labs will enable art educators and fiber enthusiasts to learn new things virtually, or if you live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, in person at one of the hands-on Lab sessions.
The first Lab, Paper Cloth, will explore the union of paper and cloth using a glue adhesive. This process has lots of potential applications. It is applicable for 2D or 3D projects. It is a base for mixed media applications. It can be soft and flexible, or built up to be substantial and stiff.
The Paper Cloth Lab will have a hands-on workshop in Dallas at the Dallas MakerSpace on Sunday, March 26, 2017 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. DMS is centrally located off I35, just north of 635. For teachers or fiber enthusiasts, tickets for the the hands-on workshop are available at Eventbrite for $20 (plus a $1.49 handling fee). There are 15 spots for this Lab, so sign up soon to reserve your spot!
For those of you that don’t live in the DFW area, Explore Fiber is launching the Labs through a membership service for $19.99 a lesson. The labs will be coming out monthly. This first lab will be released on April 1, 2017. We are excited to bring this new feature to our Explore Fiber fans! So much fiber! So many ways to use it as a fine art material! Let us help you explore new ways to play with fiber! If you have any questions, contact us at our email: explorefiber@gmail.com.
