Explore Fiber is a collaborative website showcasing and exploring fiber as a fine art material.
I want to send out a HUGE thank you to everyone who voted for Explore Fiber in The Art of Ed’s Best Blog of the Year 2015 contest! Oh, my goodness! Explore Fiber is in it’s toddler phase of life – there is so much more to come! As a lifelong fiber artist, and an art teacher for the last 11 years, bringing fiber as a fine art material into k-12 art education classrooms is one of my BIGGEST passions!
This site is intended for art teachers and fiber artists to contribute to and to provide a collaborative space where we showcase fibers as the wonderful art material it is! I invite you to contact us to share your lessons, your stories, your students’ projects, or resources – all things fiber art! A special shout out to my partners who were a part of the initial idea and the incubation period: Jeanette Thompson and Lisa Mittler Bradford. I LOVE YOU WOMEN! And a HUGE thanks to the Surface Design Association for the SDA Scholar award, that was sponsored by the Windgate Charitable Foundation, to attend their annual conference in 2011, Confluence. That’s really where the idea began to germinate. As SDA Scholars, we were charged with finding ways to bring fibers into our art ed classrooms. Explore Fiber is the love child from that amazing experience and a culmination of my and many others’ life work and passion. Thanks, again, and tell all of your friends to Explore Fiber!
