Reviews of workshop:
Summer is a great time to build my personal skill set as an artist. While I miss my students, it was nice to mingle with a few creative adults, especially Christine! I took her “Weaving With Wire” course, and it was an incredible learning experience! Walking in as a beginner, Christine made sure to build my confidence and help me along the way. She is an attentive instructor and never failed to notice when anyone needed help or a creative nudge. She had a great energy to her and it showed throughout the weekend in this workshop. I learned many things about the Dorset loom, different weaving techniques, and even created beautiful pieces of jewelry from my woven artwork. I recommend this experience for anyone! It’s been my favorite activity of the summer! Rachel
The wire weaving workshop is a real hands-on exploration of the possibilities of combining fiber and wire in textiles with a focus on using these weavings in jewelry. Its format encourages experimentation in the type of weave employed (twill or plain weave), the type of fiber which is to be paired with the wire, patterns (stripes) in the wire warp and variation in warp width, and use of different types of looms. Despite this intimidating scope, the program is accessible even to beginner weavers because of the remarkable flexibility, individual attention, and help with problem solving which Christine Miller was willing and able to furnish generously. The atmosphere was encouraging and welcoming, and the group was congenial and helpful. I was sorry at the end of 3 days of working from 9:00 to 4:00 that the program was over and the participants all had to go home. Shelley
