Explore Fiber is a collaborative website showcasing and exploring fiber as a fine art material.
Explore Fiber wants to give Cassie Stephens a BIG shout out for bringing fiber arts into her elementary art classroom, LOVING it, and SHARING it! Just back from our National Art Education Association conference in Chicago, Cassie still had time to post her Fave Fiber Art Lessons.
Getting our young people to experience fibers in the classroom in their early art education experience is so important! My own experience – I stood up against the wall of the school house and would knit through recess! I’ve literally had fibers in my fingers throughout my entire life! I LOVE it when our young people discover the excitement and ease of creating with yarn and thread at an early age. Working with fibers in weaving, embroidery, knitting, crochet, sewing or any other technique gives them an experience that could last a life time. Cassie, thanks for sparking this excitement in your classroom! Please visit this wonderful blog post for her lesson ideas and LOTS of videos to see it all in action! If you have experiences you want to share from your classroom, Explore Fiber would love to include your classroom successes as well. Give us a shout!
