Explore Fiber is a collaborative website showcasing and exploring fiber as a fine art material.
Ágnes Herczeg’s work is very exciting – she has taken an historic fiber process, which was used on clothing and linens, and turned it into a provocative, contemporary fiber art process. This kind of reinterpretation of fiber as a fine art material is at the heart of Explore Fiber’s mission. The wood and ceramic pieces that she uses to support her fiber art flow into the lace and create a unified composition. You can read an interview with the artist to hear her talk about her work. I particularly like this clip from the interview, which demonstrates how stitched into her regular life her art making is:
What does a regular day look like for you?
Because we have a big family my schedule is full with daily chores and the time I spend with my children. Embroidery can be harmonized with my daily house-works, therefore it is an ideal activity for me. I spend a lot of time together with my kids, who are also very creative, so we can work side-by-side most of the time.
Check out her web shop if you are interested in purchasing her work. It is well priced and she has several categories of work available: lace & ceramic, lace & wood, natural colors, miniature works, and lace with coconut shell. Blending home and hearth with art and income is something so many of us strive to accomplish, Agnes is doing it very well!
